    Partition Problems

Hey all, I kinda have a problem with a partition I made and since Im kinda new to this, I don´t know how to fix it.
Thing is I installed ubuntu from the cd into a separate HDD than my laptop's in hopes that when the HDD is connected, it asked me which OS I would like to start.
The Partition worked but the problem is that when its not connected, the pc wont start at all.
Any Ideas of how to fix it? If possible without any formatting?
    thanks in advance.

Did you remember to jumper one of your drives as a slave so only one is set to master?
